This simple manual is dedicated to
those wine professionals whose knowledge has made this
possible…and especially to John Verdeal (Certified
Sommelier of the Court of Master Sommeliers) from
Colorado Creative Beverage who is responsible for
putting together this manual.
The odds are that if you have picked up this training
material, that you have a desire to learn more about the
world of wine. This being the case lets look at a
scenario that may have prompted your desire to learn.
You have just received a phone call and learned that
you have been invited to a very prominent party’s home
for a formal dinner, the first question that comes to
mind is:
“Is there anything that I can bring?”
The voice on the other end of the phone informs you
that it is not necessary for you to bring
anything…however, should you wish to, a bottle of wine
would be quite nice. The next question out of your mouth
is generally:
“What will you be serving that evening?”
The simplest of minds knows and understands that wine
is meant to be paired with food, but your level of
understanding this chemistry ends right there.
The information following this beginning should give
you the knowledge to walk into your favorite wine store,
and based on your knowledge of the food to be
served…pick the perfect wine paring to go with that
dish…based only on the shape of the bottle! Pay enough
attention and you will be able to talk about the wine
that you have chosen, in a language, and using
terminology that not only makes sense, but also will
impress yourself as well as others. It is really very
simple when you have been given the right information,
and that is exactly what this material was written to
do.
Enjoy the adventure.
