Granted in 1698 by
Simon van der Stel to Hendrik Sneewind, Diemersdal is one of the
oldest Wine Estates in South Africa. The Louw Family is now in
the six generation of making fine wines on the Estate.
Situated in the shadows of
Dorstberg in the renowned Durbanville wine region, Diemersdal’s
steep slopes, deep red clay soil significantly shape the
character of wine. From the deep red clays, vines bring forward
the fruitiness and the more stony soils produce the mineral
chalky flavours. Blending these two together results in the
excellent Diemersdal Wines.

 MATYS -
DURBANVILLE
An elegant complexity of
classic fruit of the three cultivars making up
this unique blend.
50% Pinotage, 40% Shiraz and 10% Merlot.
TASTING NOTES: The ruby
colour of the Matys catches the first sense of
the taster to be followed by the aromas of the
black berries, the smokiness of the Shiraz and
the richness of the oak. On the palate the fruit
is upfront and lingers for a long smooth finish.
Drink now with the option to age for a few more
years.

DURBANVILLE
The
five cultivars used in the blend, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Pinotage and
Merlot was carefully picked at their peak
between March and April. Vinified separately.
the resulting wines were aged separately in oak
before the final blending.
TASTING
NOTES: Deep, dark chocolate and enticing cedar
aromas appear first on the nose, followed by notes of
blackberry jam and crème de chassis. The firm, well
structured palate features robust yet sweet tannins and
a broad range of flavours ranging from black cherry and
red fruits carried along by the richness of it oak and
caramel notes. Long and smooth now, with an intriguing
character that will continue to develop for years to
come.

 DIEMERSDAL
CABERNET SAUVIGNON-
DURBANVILLE
Waiting
for the perfect grape ripeness gave very good
results; the wines do not show any green
characters, and they display intense fruity
notes and good concentration.
TASTING NOTES: Beautiful ruby red in colour.
On the nose, the first impression is spicy,
followed by ripe blackberry aromas and a light
touch of mint. The mouth is medium bodied and
lively, with good structure and spicy tannins.
The oak elements are well integrated with the
fruit, creating a rich yet elegant texture. The
full fruit characters make this wine enjoyable
now, and it should continue to age well for many
years.

PINOTAGE
-
DURBANVILLE
Picked
when the grapes reached optimum ripeness and
because of cooler conditions during harvest, the
fruit ripened slowly to give us the best to work
with in the cellar.
TASTING NOTES: Deep, dark violet colour is
the taster’s first indication of the wine’s
beautiful fruity character. The aromas offer a
complex array of berries, toasted bananas and
oak. On the palate the wine is silky with
forward tannins. The use of oak supports the
fruit and the tannins are firm but subtle. The
Pinotage is soft en fruity enough to enjoy now,
but has excellent ageing potential.

DIEMERSDAL SAUVIGNON BLANC -DURBANVILLE
The
variety benefited from the cool growing
conditions, producing wines with good body,
bright acidity and beautiful fruit expression.
TASTING NOTES: Our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc
displays a greenish colour that is indicative of
the protection from oxygen that characterized
the winemaking process. The wine has good depth
on the nose, with aromas of citrus, green herbal
accents and a touch of asparagus. On the palate,
excellent natural acidity creates balance, a
fine structure and a clean finish.
