HISTORY
Finca Agostino is the story of a dream…the dream of going back
to the roots, to the land of our childhood, to the vineyards
where we used to walk holding hands with Sebastiano, our
winegrower grandfather. He instilled in our souls the love and
respect for the vine, the sun, the water, the land of Mendoza…
And also, the promise to return… to return to make this dream
come true.
In the same way one achieves a dream, we have chosen the perfect
place with strength, dedication and passion. There, we have
built Finca Agostino, just like we had fancied in our dreams,
and began this journey towards our desired goal: to make the
best Argentine wines.
Grandpa, we dedicate these wines to you and to you all, wine
lovers, since “A dream dreamt alone remains merely a dream; only
when we dream together can this dream come true.”
During their childhood, Vincenzo, Rosalía, Sebastián and Miguel
Agostino lived in Mendoza. In the sixties, they settled with
their family in Canada. In 2003, they decided to come back to
Mendoza to fulfill their dream. Then, in Barrancas, Maipú, they
decided to start this project with the aim of making the best
high quality wines of Argentina.
VINEYARD
One of the greatest challenges for the
Agostino brothers was the selection of the perfect Terroir.
Convinced that the secret to a great wine is in the vineyard,
they traveled the province for two years in search of the best
location to grow grapes. In 2003, they finally acquired 255
hectares in Barrancas, Maipu, with vines up to 60 years old, as
well as 50 hectares in La Consulta, Valle de Uco.
Today, the same care that the Agostino
brothers used to choose their land is taken with each plant all
year long. To that end, more than 18 vine grower contractors*
work the land and are directed by our agricultural engineer.
They have more than 50 years of experience working and living
with grapevines. This unique and harmonious way of working the
land guarantees that meticulous care is taken with each plant
and every grape.
*This system is
used to work the land in Mendoza, and in very few other places
in the world. The vine grower is contracted to take
responsibility for a parcel of the vineyard for the entire
season. The quality of the grape harvest depends on the vine
grower's work throughout the year and thus he dedicates his
life, hard work and passion to the vines.
FINCA AGOSTINO, BARRANCAS, MAIPU
(225 Hectares)
Our Finca Agostino is located at 850 meters above sea level in
the Barrancas region, department of Maipu, Mendoza. The vineyard
is made up of mostly trellised grapes and some hectares of
plants over 60 years old. This area's particular micro climate
and stony ground make for wines of exceptional quality with an
intense concentration of aromas.
The warm
days and mild nights allow our grapes to reach optimal maturity.
Scarce precipitation and strong sunlight produce especially
healthy grapes. Careful use of water from Andean snow melt is
another key to the quality achieved in our gapes. Original and
pure Mendoza river water is collected in a pond located at the
center of our Finca, with a capacity of 35 million liters. Thus,
we are able to water each plant as much as it needs with a drip
irrigation system installed in the majority of the vineyard and
with traditional irrigation in some of the most antique parcels.
FINCA LA
SERAFINA, LA CONSULTA, VALLE DE UCO
(50 Hectares)
Our Finca La Serafina is located in the La Consulta region, a
privileged area in Valle de Uco with an altitude of 1,100 meters
above sea level. Here the sandy, stony ground has good drainage
and little organic matter, characteristics which guarantee a
high quality grape. The large temperature difference between day
and night is feature of the micro climate that creates wines
with excellent color, intense fresh fruit aromas and tannins
that allow the wine to be stored in the barrel for long periods
of time.
Because we cherish our vineyards and the
work that is carried out in them throughout the year, the entire
property is protected by an anti-hail net.
WINERY
The winery was built in the heart of our Finca, surrounded by
picturesque gardens and fountains. The family home and guest
houses are found in this same location, as guests are invited to
share the Agostino brothers' dream.
Due to the demand for a high quality wine
making, the latest technology was chosen for reception,
crushing, pressing and wine-making. At present, the winery uses
stainless steal tanks with a capacity of 2 million liters and 1
million liters in epoxy-sealed cement tanks. Strict temperature
controls are carried out in both cases.
The role of technology is essential for
Finca Agostino as it allows us to maintain the optimum
characteristics offered by the vineyard in the wine-making
process.
The wine aging in French and American
barrels selected by our enologists is done in our unique cellar:
an underground tunnel that joins the winery and the family home.
In order to formalize our philosophy in
providing excellent quality, we have begun the certification
process, “Best Manufacturing Practices”, HACCP, BRC (Global
Standard).
Environment
In Finca Agostino we protect the environment and preserve
nature.
We recycle all waste and we treat liquid
waste for agricultural re-use. Our compost plant provides
organic matter for the vineyards and gardens.
Our team
Every dream requires a strong, committed and responsible team to
make it come true. Our achievements are the result of the
participation and work of all of our team members.
We are constantly working on the personal
development of our human resources. In order to formalize our
efforts, we have begun the Fair Trade certification.
