In 1998, Raúl V. Jofré visited Mendoza, Argentina, an area world
renowned as the best for Malbec and one of the best for Merlot, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and many others. He fell in love
with Valle de Uco (Uco Valley) and decided to invest in one of the
strongest passions of his life: making wines, but ones with
extraordinary personality and a high quality. Today in that valley he
owns over 60 hectares of vineyards.
Moved by his passion for wine and with the help of his business
experience, he founded this company guided by his deep desire to create
a precious way of life for himself and his four "stars", as he usually
calls his daughters, who are the other very strong passion of his
existence. For that reason, creating and developing this project means
to reach his most important aim.
This is how Raúl Jofré became a wine producer and how RJ Viñedos (RJ
Vineyards) came about. From the beginning, the company has prided itself
on its qualified professionals committed to quality.
In short, RJ Viñedos is a winery dedicated to the production of
high-quality wines with strong personality, looking to meet market
demands and consumer trends, always working on wines with exceptional
and distinctive character.

MISSION
The mission of RJ Viñedos is to develop a company for the production of
high-quality wines with exceptional personality and a recognizable
identity.
We aim to create a particular wine style which represents the
characteristics of this unique terroir and the utmost expression of the
fruit in consonance with the richness of oak barrel properties. However,
the essence of the mission lies in believing in the spirit of teamwork
and committed professionals who commune with the richness and nobility
of the soil, the vine and the wine and who are sensitive to the art of
creating superior wines which is the secret of RJ Viñedos' conviction.

VISION
The challenge is to penetrate different markets around the world
creating the beginning of an everlasting relationship of pleasure
between consumer and wine, and wine and consumer.
For the future, RJ Viñedos expects consumers to choose their wines based
on their exceptional personality and particular identity.

THE LAND
Mendoza is one of the most beautiful cities in Argentina and its
province is well-known as "the land of the sun and great wine". It is
located in the northwest of the country and with its continental climate
offers optimum conditions for viticulture.
The exceptional weather conditions combined with a special kind of soil
are decisive factors for obtaining grape varieties and balanced wines in
aroma, flavor and body.

THE VINEYARDS
Valle de Uco (Uco Valley) is one of the most valued regions in Argentina
for high-quality wines. It is situated at the foothills of the
Cordillera de los Andes (the Andes Mountains) at an altitude between 900
and 1400 meters above sea level and has a special cool microclimate that
nurtures the grape vines and allows perfect ripening.

RJ Viñedos' vineyards are located in this
valley. The largest one is in a place called Los Sauces, Tunuyán
which has an important east west incline, from 1000 to 1035
meters above sea level. Also in Uco Valley, RJ Viñedos has
chosen smaller plots to produce some of its highest-quality
wines, since they come from very old vines, between 25 and 50
years old.
The cool breezes from the mountains and
temperatures that vary at least 15° C from day to night create
perfect ripening conditions ensuring excellent aroma and flavor
concentration in the fruit. The favorable contrast of cool
nights and sunny days, low relative humidity and very little
annual precipitation, in conjunction with a extremely careful
handling at every stage of production, ensure growth of grapes
for quality wines.
In addition to these special land properties
and climate the RJ Viñedos' vineyards enjoy irrigation from the
pure water that comes from the Andes' thaw (very low salinity
and sodium and lightly alkaline ph).
In order to take advantage of all these
particular characteristics, RJ Viñedos has planted specially
selected clones in virgin soil. This deep, sandy, stony and
moderately fertile soil has excellent natural drainage.
RJ Viñedos' vineyards lie in a land of notable
purity without foreign residue and air contamination. Because of
the small amount of precipitation throughout the year the
vineyards need almost no special treatment.
The vineyards, blessed by the exceptional
geographical characteristics of the region, are complemented by
the latest technology, i.e. the installation of the most
efficient piping and computer-controlled drip irrigation systems
(supplying an accurate amount of the water needed by the vines),
and anti-hail netting.
All the grapes that are used in the creation
of RJ Viñedos' wines are carefully harvested by hand using small
boxes (18 Kgs.), in late March and April when the optimal moment
of aromatic concentration, acidity and sugar is reached.
